Anushka Sharma In ADHM Is Giving Us Major #StyleGoals

Probably one of the most-awaited films of the year, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, finally hit cinemas last week. The majorly controversial film that has been in the news for both the right and wrong reasons, may have received a lot of flack for its plot, but guess what, we are majorly crushing on Anushka Sharma a.k.a. Alizeh’s style in the movie! The boho-chic vibe fits her character perfectly and is completely doable for any girl. Unlike most K-Jo films, with the extravagant wardrobe and OTT lifestyles his characters portray, it usually gets difficult for the average-but-oh-so-stylish Indian girl to copy. I think I was more googly-eyed at Anushka’s wardrobe than I was at Ranbir (which says a lot for me). The fusion style of Indian ethnic meets rustic chic that Manish Malhotra has put together is giving us wardrobe goals.

When asked about styling Anushka as Alizeh, the designer said, “Anushka plays a Muslim girl from Lucknow in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. My approach to her look was to give it a real-girl touch. We have blended traditional and modern details throughout the movie. So, you see Anushka teaming long chikan and threadwork kurtas with ripped jeans through many of her scenes.

“I went with dressing her in a perfect blend of international and Indian accents, so that our audience both loves and relates to the pieces. Since a chunk of the film is set in winters, and keeping in mind the premise of the movie and the characters, layering, playing with colours and textures has been quite fun, and I am glad the response has been phenomenal so far.”

As a fashion lover, I usually tend to keep a keen eye out for detail and one thing I noticed was that there was constantly an element of something ethnic during the course of the film. Whether it was wearing ripped jeans and boots with kurtas, the jackets, or even as simple as adding a classic pair of ethnic earrings to something rather western — the essence of the character was amalgamated extremely well in her wardrobe. Relatable to any girl who loves her ripped jeans, as much as she loves her kurtas, I am totally going to try and emulate Alizeh in my wardrobe this season…are you?
