Anita Dongre Launches Her Flagship Store In New York City

One of India’s most celebrated designers, Anita Dongre, is not just a powerhouse of talent, but also a brilliant entrepreneur. She has founded Anita Dongre bridal couture, menswear, Anita Dongre pret, AND, Global Desi, and sustainable luxury brand — Grassroot by Anita Dongre.

After garnering much love and success in India, Anita has also made a mark on the international fashion scene.

What’s more she is the go-to designer for most diplomats making a visit to India. She has dressed Kate Middleton for her India visit, and also styled Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, the first lady of Canada, for her India visit. Reality star Kim Kardashian has also worn one of Anita’s creations for a photo shoot.

Hence, it comes as no surprise, that Anita Dongre is taking her empire forward and has now launched her first flagship store in the city of dreams – New York. The new store will house the sustainable luxury brand Grassroot, Anita Dongre bridal couture, menswear, as well as Anita Dongre pret, all under one roof.

The beautiful space is located at the iconic 473 West Broadway, a pre-war building dating back to the 1900s, in the heart of New York’s most vibrant shopping thoroughfare. On the outside, it is a beautiful white building and the store occupies three storeys and spans over 4,500 square feet.

True to Anita’s design aesthetic, the store has a boho-vibe to it with traditional Indian tile-framed mirrors, natural wood floors and fixtures with brass hardware. The décor is accented by elements in rose gold, cork, and sustainably sourced wood.

It is a known fact that Anita often seeks inspiration for her designs from Rajasthan, and her store in the Big Apple recreates spatial patterns of the architecture of Rajasthan. The decor takes shape with the various architectural elements that define Rajasthan – arches, jallis, nooks & corners, niches and alcoves.

Sharing her thoughts, Anita says, “I’ve always loved the multicultural vibe of New York City and I’m extremely excited to take Indian Bridal Couture to New York. Earlier brides had to travel to India, in order to visit my store. Now, with the launch of a more easily accessible store, the bride, groom and their family can enjoy the luxury and experience with bespoke services at the flagship Anita Dongre store. I also feel a sense of pride in taking Indian fashion to the city of dreams – New York.”
