Known for his earnest yet exquisite designs, couturier Manish Malhotra kicked off Lakmé Fashion Week Summer Resort 2016 with an offsite show at Mehboob Studios yesterday. In an interview with us earlier this week, Bollywood’s favourite designer had already given us a sneak peek of the collection.

Titled Elements, the collection was a showcase of exquisite designs inspired by the four elements of nature — Earth, Water, Wind and Flame. The models were seen strutting down the runway mimicking the perfect modern bride in exquisitely crafted designs. From tailored ponchos and overlapped trousers, to cocktail dresses with graceful sari drapes and off-shoulder jumpsuits with Victorian trails, the designer showed a gamut of creations that were a blend of traditional yet modern pieces.

Making use of fabrics like organza, tussar and crepe, Malhotra worked a pastel colour story that comprised baby pink, powder blue, mint green and sunset orange. We noticed tailored pants teamed with cropped jackets, garments with assymetrical cuts to heavily-embroidered lehengas with sheer dupattas, floor-length dresses in ivory with overlay capes, flowy kurtas with voluminous pants, and more. Floral motifs made an appearance throughout the collection, while some garments were enhanced by Manish’s hand-picked uncut, rubies, emerald and diamond accessories from Anmol Jewellers, along with handcrafted belts and beaded fringes bags.
