Dove’s New Campaign Breaks Beauty Stereotypes In The Best Possible Way!

Growing up, pretty much all of us recited this particular nursery rhyme with glee: “Chubby cheeks, dimpled chin… rosy lips, teeth within. Curly hair, very fair… Eyes are blue, lovely too….” But when you stop to think about it, were any of us really rosy-cheeked, blue-eyed little girls portraying this perfect ideal of beauty? That’s when you realise how ingrained these unrealistic notions are in the psyche of Indian women. From a very young age, we’re taught that a perfect girl is one who is physically attractive in every sense of the word.

But ladies, it’s time to grow up and out of this obsolete ennui. And thanks to Dove, we’re ready to let go of the age-old beauty ideals we’ve grown up with. In a new video campaign called Is That You?, Dove showcases a rather progressive view of beauty and it’s giving us all the feels. Launched smack dab in the middle of the ongoing Rio Olympics 2016, the video shows a battalion of women covered in dirt and blood playing sports while the nursery rhyme plays in the background. It totally redefines what it means to be a 21st-century woman in India.

Dove wants YOU to #ChangeTheRhyme and it’s about time we press for these stereotypes to change. Watch the video above, then put your thoughts to paper and rewrite the nursery rhyme to something that’s more REAL and more YOU. The brand will then release another video encapsulating this more inclusive definition of beauty, and we can’t wait to see what you have to say!

If you have a burning desire to #ChangeTheRhyme, tell Dove your version of the rhyme on realbeautystories@gmail.com. We promise they’re listening!
