‘Tis the season for round ups, y’all, and considering the fact that 2016 was a great year for technology, I’ve gathered the apps that made me a very happy geek. Read on for my picks and let me know if I’ve missed out on any of your favourites in the comments below.
Admit it, you went out and explored the world a whole lot more, thanks to Pokémon GO. Although it may have ruined my life and sparked some seriously questionable fashion trends, 2016 was the year ‘adults’ chased prospective Pikachus, instead of their dreams.
Demonetisation rocked our world and, in our time of dire poverty, PayTM came to our rescue. Soon we were purchasing everything from vegetables to clothes using PayTM.
Ask the #HauteSquad and they’ll confess that Snapchat is our bae! This year, Snapchat upped the bar and firmly placed itself in our minds and on our phones with a series of killer updates that elevated the snap-sperience to a whole new realm of awesomeness! P.S: Follow @thehauterfly?
We’d have a lot more to complain about in 2016, if it weren’t for Jio’s revolutionary marketing scheme that had us all hooked. Since the My-Jio app is the gateway to all things awesome, it had to make it to our list of best apps.
Super Mario Run
Our favourite game is all grown up and now available on iOS devices in an all-new, HD avatar. The game scores super high on nostalgia for us ’90s, kids and the the sheer gameplay satisfaction and UI make it a must-download — if you have an iPhone, that is.
Available on iOS only.
Barring Tinder, I believe Netflix has had the most impact on the lives of Indian couples. Thank the good Lord that the app debuted in India and finally made ‘Netflix & Chill’ a phenomenon that we love to hate!
Another #HauteSquad favourite, Prisma offered a breath of fresh air from the bombardment of Snapchat dog filters. Don’t even try to pretend that you didn’t spend hours on the app, “unleashing your artsy side”.
TinyCards revolutionised learning in 2016, with its slew of fun flash cards on topics ranging from language, geography, physics, and what not. Read my entire review here!
Available on iOS only.
