One of the perks of my job is trying out the latest beauty products and services, and I can’t ever complain about that. Some experiences are mind-blowing, and sure… some aren’t, but we are here to share our honest reviews so you always know what to choose!

Recently I interviewed Mrs Funnybones, Twinkle Khanna (check it out here) and she was raving about the new bond protective and strengthening technology – Smartbond. Smartbond by L’Oréal Professionnel India is apparently the brand’s solution for women who hesitate to colour, pre-lighten or straighten their hair, and for those who want to change their hair colour frequently in order to stay on trend. As soon as I heard about it, I knew for a fact that I had to try it out!

My hair was bleached, coloured, and destroyed in October 2017, and thereafter, I relied on a hair tie and a prayer to get me through every week with at least one good hair day. Over a period of time, the colour faded and I was left with unruly bleached hair with a mind of its own. Darker hair automatically looks and feels healthier so I knew that it was the only way to save my hair during this experiential. I decided to opt for a reddish black ombre effect, and it turned out to be just what I wanted.

The session started off with a consultation with a hairstylist, where I showed him all the reference images that I got from millions of hours spent on the web. Based on my skin colour and hair texture, we settled for a deep burgundy and dark brown look, and he suggested we do a test strip on my hair before we go all out painting the town red (literally).

I was glad he insisted on a test strip since we initially used the Majirel red highlight colour, which turned out to be way redder than expected (as seen above on the left). He then used the INOA global colour in the shade C6.66 which is exactly what I wanted (the one on the right). The INOA colours were oil-based, as you can see (above). So naturally it leaves the hair moisturised, and does not strip away all the natural oils.

The stylist parted my hair into several sections, then deposited the burgundy and dark brown colours, which contained the Smartbond solution, into my hair in alternate sections. He then coloured the rest of my hair in dark brown with INOA 5. My hair was then washed with the INOA shampoo and conditioner, which left it feeling all kinds of soft and shiny. Once the entire process was done, I was as happy as a child in Disneyland!

All in all, it was a great experience, and after a 4-hour session, complete with green tea and sandwiches, we finally achieved the look I was hoping for!

This experiential based on the length of my hair was priced at Rs. 9602 (inclusive of taxes) for the highlights, and Smartbond add on.
