Reviewed: Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Purifying Gel

I enjoy reviewing products, especially makeup and skincare products. Even though my skin is super sensitive, I’ve never really had a massive problem with using a new one. But this time, I can tell you, I’m truly stumped. This is possibly the hardest review I’ve had to write…in a while.

I started using the Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Purifying Gel a little over a month ago. I tried different variations in use — washing my face with it only at night during my 8-step bedtime skincare ritual (yeah, it’s a big exhausting); using it when I shower in the morning; applying it twice a day; not using it for a couple of days and switching it up with a couple of other facewashes, and so on.

When I first started using it, my face broke out. Now, I generally have problem-free skin and don’t often get pimples of breakouts (thank you God and mom #PleaseDontJinxIt), so when this happened, I was inclined to blame the Vichy gel. However, I didn’t stop using it, and the skin soon calmed down too — now I’m thinking the breakouts could have been stress-induced or because I didn’t drink enough water *hides face in shame*.

But here’s my conundrum — I found that this particular facewash did absolutely nothing for my skin. It didn’t worsen it, but I didn’t feel particularly cleaner, fresher, or brighter after having used. So I kept using it and pushing this review, in hope of a miracle. Sadly, there was none. Now do you feel my conundrum?

On a positive note, I do love the fragrance and texture of this gel — it’s light and smells like a garden in the summertime. I decided to go Sherlock on it, and read some reviews of the product online. Most users said that they had oily skin prone to breakouts, and that this gel facewash did wonders for their skin. Perhaps that is it.

I have combination, slightly schizophrenic skin, which is terribly dry at times, and so oily at others that you could fry an egg on it (I wouldn’t suggest eating that egg though). Just goes to show how unique each person’s skin is.

To sum up, the Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Purifying Gel did nothing for me, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work for your skin. While I may not be rushing to the drugstore to buy me another bottle, I’d suggest you do give this a shot…because, you never know.
