The Director of Makeup Artistry for MAC, Mickey Contractor, launched his encore collection with the cosmetics brand last month, and boy, were we mesmerised by the products.

Focussing on hues that are perfectly suited for the Indian skin tones, this MAC Mickey Contractor collection encapsulates your classic basics, which you can instantly take from day to night in an instance. What’s in it?

Well, there’s the classic Ruby Woo in pencil form, a super waterproof mascara to elongate those lashes, his famous matte lipstick Mehr, and of course, how can I forget that gorgeous foil-like amber eye shadow — just to name a few.

The one product I was lucky enough to get my hands on was the Conceal & Correct Duo. MAC is known for its quality products and great coverage formulation, and let me tell you, I was swept off my feet by this one!

Due to severe acne breakouts during my teen years, I was left with blemishes, spots, and discolouration that was treated, but still visible. Creamy concealers were bae during the tumultuous years, and then eventually, I ventured into the world of colour correction.

TBH, I never thought that concealer could be applied so much better on colour corrected skin, before I used this product. A complementing combination of shades that match my skin tone to a T, the conceal and correct duo stick doesn’t leave me looking pasty or creamed up.

I was left pleasantly surprised — although MAC’s base products are absolutely great, they didn’t quite work on my skin earlier. It usually left me with a cakey, sort of rocky finish, which I never really liked. However, this product did the complete opposite!

At first the bottle looks a little scary — I mean, to a lay person, applying a colour like orange or red to their skin to make it look flawless is a little daunting and risky, isn’t it? However, the fact that you can control the amount of product with the applicator makes it buildable, allowing for a sheer application, rather than a cakey one.

The lightweight liquid formula also allows for a blendable application, which is unlike any cream-based concealers I have used in the past.

As for my blemishes, a little bit of the Burnt Coral to cancel out the dark pigments (especially around the corners of my mouth), a touch of the Rich Yellow to conceal it and voilà! my skin instantly looked refreshed.

On a side note, I never had the issue of dark circles, but since I was testing out the product, I thought, why not give it go, and wow…what a difference just a little bit made! It brightened up my eyes and made me look awake. Who knew?!?

This product gets my thumbs up — if you’re looking for a concealer and corrector combination that will work those dark circles and hide picked pimple marks, then this one is definitely for you.
