Live in Bombay and you’ll know how pointless using compact foundation is. Especially if you have oily skin. You may feel pretty good about yourself while preening in front the mirror — makeup on fleek and all. But step out, and back comes the shiny layer of oil and what can only be described as giant dust particles settling into your every pore. Urgh.

So, when I find a compact that combats the Mumbai humidity, I’m hooked. And that’s precisely what happened when I started using the Cover FX Pressed Mineral Foundation. The first time I applied it, I used it sparingly, lest my face gets caked and changes colour. But the compact is lightweight and matches my skin tone almost more perfectly than my skin itself. Well, maybe not, but you get the drift. So, I started sweeping the sponge with more of the product, applying it tentatively at first, gaining confidence with every stroke. It instantly evened out my skin without drying it out or leaving it cakey — I have a scar below my jawline which it did a pretty good job of covering. And guess what, even after I had braved the city’s rains, trains, and humidity, my skin looked just as fresh!

Providing sheer to full build-up coverage (which basically means you can use as little or as much as you like), this foundation compact is made without sulphates, parabens, or phthalates and is… wait for it… VEGAN! Yes, the product is free of gluten, mineral oil, talc, and synthetic dyes. But I’d suggest not eating it, vegan or not.

The only downside is that it smells kinda vile — to me. I asked the rest of my team to smell it, and they looked at me rather confused. So, unless your sensory glands are as sensitive as mine, you’ll be fine.

The packaging is sleek and light, making it perfect to drop into your purse or handbag before rushing out of the door. You may need, at best, two or three re-applications through the day — just to spruce up. And, this product will last you a fairly long while. Which is why the slightly intimidating price shouldn’t deter you. Look at it like a beauty investment with plenty of returns.
