Beachy Waves Are Totally Achievable With This Argan-Oil Infused Mousse

Just like poker straight was a massive hair trend in the early 2000s, effortless beach waves have been having a massive moment for most of 2017. Tousled, wavy hair that looks like you’ve been enjoying some serious beach time continues to be a big trend well into 2018.

So what if summer is almost coming to an end? Long-lasting, texturised beachy hair can be worn any time of the year. But finding a product that helps you achieve this look can be a bit of a bother.

I have wavy/curly frizzy hair and not a lot of it. So I’m constantly searching for products that will define the shape, tame the frizz, and give me volume, all without making my hair feel crunchy or look wet and scraggly. This is especially difficult now that my hair is shorter, because it can tend to look like a “lampshade” (flat on top and puffy as it goes down) if I’m not careful.

So when Moroccanoil Beach Wave Mousse landed on my desk a few weeks ago, I held out hope that this would do all that.

Moroccanoil Beach Wave Mousse

Moroccanoil Beach Wave Mousse is an upgrade on the classic sea salt spray. Featuring an argan oil-infused formula, it also claims to have unique styling polymers that allow for wave retention and curl definition, while also providing volume and sun protection. And it promises to do all this without dehydrating the hair.

Now I’m all for tousled texture in mousse form, and the product does achieve a dry, touchable finish, but it doesn’t leave my dehydrated strands looking or feeling moisturised. I like how it holds shape and gives texture, but I’ve found that I do need to add in a hydrating leave-in conditioner before adding the mousse on top for texture.

Here’s how I use it: After washing my hair, I run a dry hair oil through the lengths and let it sit for a bit while my hair air dries. When it is about 50% dry, I rake in a golf-ball size amount of the Moroccanoil mousse through the mid-lengths and ends, twist up my strands and leave it be. Once it is completely dry, I scrunch up and shake it out. The result? Defined waves and tamed frizz.

If you love sea-salt sprays but hate how they dry out your hair, then Moroccanoil’s new argan-infused mousse might be exactly what you need.
