This Amazonian Clay Cleanser Is Great For Zahra’s Oily Skin

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always needed a face wash that’s the right balance of gentle yet gritty. I need something that can remove all the pollution, makeup, and toxins from my skin without stripping it dry. And to be honest, regular face washes just don’t do it for me. I’ve tried so many of them over the years that it’s not even funny how none have lasted beyond a month of use. At one point, my bathroom cabinet was overflowing with all kinds of cleansers that promised to leave my skin squeaky clean but never quite lived up to their claims. Which is why I have religiously stuck to my trusty Dove soap for as long as I can remember.

I have oily skin that is also super sensitive, so most face washes either irritate my skin and cause redness or worse still, breakouts. I find soaps — be it organic, branded, or medicated — way too harsh and absolutely hate how tight and dry my skin feels after. And so Dove soap has been my daily companion for at least a decade. However, when Kiehl’s first launched in India in 2011, I was among the first to make a beeline for the store as I’d bought a few products on previous trips abroad and absolutely loved them. That’s when I first discovered its Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleanser and honestly, I’ve been cheating on my Dove soap ever since!

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser

The great thing about this cleanser is that it contains Amazonian White Clay, finely crushed Diatomaceous Earth particles (made from the fossilized remains of diatoms, which are tiny plants that come from the sea — fascinating!), and oat kernels that make it an excellent natural exfoliant. The white clay, kaolin, and bentonite not only deep clean my skin but also help to remove toxins and unclog pores. My face does look noticeably less oily and mattified after use, and pores definitely look smaller. It has a creamy consistency with a satisfyingly gritty texture (that also foams up a little), which really helps to slough off all those dead skin cells.

Best suited for oily and acne prone skin, Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser is now the only cleanser I use alongside my Dove soap. I say alongside because I don’t use this every day. While I love its creaminess, I think it’s a little heavy for daily use so I keep alternating it or only use it over the weekends. Either way, my face feels super clean and smooth afterward and there’s no dryness or tightness ever. Yay!
