#AskHauterfly: How To Get Long Lashes Without Extensions

Most of us girls are on a perpetual quest to make our eyelashes look smashing. That explains a dresser full of mascaras. There’s the volumising one, then the lengthening one, then there’s our favourite lash separating formula, and one for when you’re feeling clumpy lashes. No matter what the current beauty trend is, our love affair with Bambi-esque lashes never ends.

No matter how beautiful our natural eyelashes are, I don’t know a single girl who wouldn’t mind eyelashes that are a little longer, a little fuller. It is only human to want more. Even though we’ve got a tonne of products that make our peepers look pretty, it doesn’t hurt to get a little extra help — like say, eyelash extensions. However, they can be quite pricey and the upkeep is insane. So what’s a girl got to do in such a situation? Grab a cotton ball! That’s right. Beauty maven and popular YouTube beauty vlogger Huda Kattan of Huda Beauty fame recently posted this video on how to get the long lashes of your dreams with the aid of just three things — a spoolie, mascara, and cotton balls!

Here’s the lowdown. Huda starts out by coating her lashes with mascara. This gives the cotton fibres something wet to adhere to. She then rips the cotton ball in half and uses her spoolie to pick up some fibres. Remember, it is important to rip the cotton ball to be able to get some fine fibres onto the spoolie. She then combs her lashes with the spoolie brush, coating her lashes with the cotton fibres, and tops it with another coat of mascara. You can repeat this process until you are satisfied with the volume and length of your lashes.

This hack works wonderfully because lash lengthening and thickening formulas work on a similar concept. They use microfibres that adhere to your lashes making them appear fuller and longer. When using cotton balls, make sure you don’t go too close to your eye ball; this is especially important for those of you who wear contact lenses. You run the risk of having cotton fibres get into your eyes, and they can be a pain to get out since they become invisible when they are wet. Yikes!
