The Only Tricks You Need To Keep Your Bobby Pins In Place!

It’s exasperating to painstakingly style your hair into a beautiful updo, only to have those darned bobby pins refusing to cooperate. Sometimes, no matter what you do, they just won’t stay in place. (You have just one job to do bobby pin. Just one!)

Although my hair is fine, there’s a lot of it, so holding a style using only bobby pins is a task. Also, you run the risk of having your do unravel at the most inopportune moment. And no one wants their hair unravelling midway through a date or a presentation! Most times, I prefer braided hairstyles that I know will stay in place until I take them down, and if I am styling my hair in twists I end up using a whole lot of pins (just to be on the safer side). But this makes my head sore and I can’t wait to get the darned things off at the end of the day.

However, nothing is impossible girls. Here are some cool tricks that will ensure the humble bobby pin stays put exactly where you left it!

1. Coat them

This is especially useful for people who have fine hair; you know, the kind where the pin literally just slips off? Just before you slide your pin into your hair, spray it with either hairspray or dry shampoo. This will give your hair and the pins something to adhere to.

2. Slide it right

What if I told you that you’ve been inserting your hair pins the wrong way all your life? Girls, pay attention: You are supposed to slide the bobby pin in the wavy side down and not the other way. Who knew?!

3. Cross them

This always works for people who have thick hair that a single bobby pin can’t keep in place. Do both the above steps but use two pins instead of one. After inserting the first one, insert the second one to crisscross the first pin. This helps hold your hair in place with a stronger grip.
