Editor’s Pick: Bushra’s Favourite Perfume Is Like Bottled Rain
Even though I love make-up, I also love a dresser full of perfumes. Unfortunately, being a girl on a budget means that I haven’t owned more than three perfumes at the same time. (So much for having a dresser full of perfumes!) I find strong fragrances extremely overpowering and intensely dislike overwhelmingly sweet or fruity perfumes. Light, aqueous scents are my absolute favourite fragrances for the day, followed by deeper, muskier ones for the night.
Which is why I fell head-over-heels in love with Burberry’s newly-launched fragrance, My Burberry. A work of revered perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, My Burberry has been described as the anti-floral floral fragrance by Allure and I couldn’t agree more. Inspired by the city of London, the rains, and an urban garden, its top notes open with sweet pea, bergamot, golden quince, freesia, geranium, rose, and patchouli but have a faint masculine twist.
Now, I haven’t come across a single person who doesn’t love petrichor, i.e. the smell of the first rain. Which is why a whiff of this perfume actually made me feel like I was in a rain-washed garden, taking in the scent of wet earth mingled with the scent of roses and freesia, with an added herbal — almost minty — touch. Ah…I miss the rains already!
