Editor’s Pick: Zahra’s New Year’s Eve Ready Red Lipstick

Editor’s Pick: Zahra’s New Year’s Eve Ready Red Lipstick

There’s nothing quite like a classic red lipstick to up the glam quotient on an evening out. And when it’s New Year’s eve, you better be ready to pull out all the stops to bring in 2016 with a bold colour and a bright smile on your face! I’ve been thinking about what I want my beauty game to look like on the last big night of the year, and I just can’t think beyond gorgeous red lips this time. I’m usually pretty low-key and no-fuss with my make-up routine, but something about 2016 just makes me want to wear more colour both in my wardrobe and on my lips.

Which brings me to the new red lipstick I’ve taking a real shining to lately. One of my favourite shades from L’Oréal’s Pure Reds collection, Pure Rouge is a gorgeous deep red with cool undertones that ACTUALLY works on all skin tones. When I first bought it, I wasn’t quite sure it would suit my pale complexion as it is endorsed by the sultry Freida Pinto, but I got it nevertheless because of how beautiful the colour looked in the tube. When I put it on, I was amazed to see how good it looked despite the lady at the counter pushing me towards a deeper red to match my tone. Seriously girls, this is a universally flattering shade and very similar to MAC’s cult classic Ruby Woo.

L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Star Lipstick in Pure Rouge_Hauterfly

L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Star Lipstick – Pure Rouge

Insanely pigmented with a smooth velvety finish, this luscious neutral red lasts a good 5 hours, but you might need to touch up if you’ve been sipping wine or eating. I use mine with the Red Alert Lipliner from Lakmé, which is a gorgeous blue-based red with excellent colour pay-off. It is quite pigmented and stays on for a long time, giving a longer shelf life to my lipstick. Considering this is a matte lipstick, the texture is not as dry as I thought it would be. It is actually quite creamy on application and goes on smoothly, before settling into a nice matte texture. If like me you have dry lips, exfoliate with a good lip scrub and apply some lip balm before wearing it. Perfect red puckers on NYE? Yes, please!
