This Cushion Compact Gives Us The Dewy Skin Of Our Dreams!

Thanks to the HUGE popularity of Korean beauty products in recent years, some of the biggest beauty brands in the world have been adapting their innovations to fit the growing needs of the market. So everything from BB and CC creams, to sheet masks and cushion compacts, have been making their presence felt in Western beauty product offerings.

And among the innovations getting serious visibility these days are cushion compacts. But how do they differ from regular foundations? And how exactly should you use them? That’s a question we often hear from beauty fanatics on various forums, so of course, we had to answer them for you.

While the formula usually tends to be lightweight, cushion compacts largely focus on colour correcting and brightening, all the while allowing your skin to look as natural as possible. What’s more, using the cushion applicator gives you an airbrushed finish and a lovely, healthy glow that’s hard to beat. Quite unlike heavy duty foundations that sit on top of your skin and give you a mask-like appearance that’s less than flattering.

So when Bobbi Brown’s new Skin Foundation Cushion Compact landed on my desk a few weeks ago, I had to give it a test drive to see whether it lives up to the hype.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Cushion Compact SPF 35

Unlike most cushion compacts in the market, the Bobbi Brown version doesn’t come pre-soaked in foundation, and you need to press the applicator in a couple of times to extract the formula. Once patted on with the applicator, the foundation is both lightweight and hydrating, and provides sheer, natural-looking coverage and an instant glow. While the coverage is somewhat buildable, it will not cover dark circles or major skin imperfections. For that, your trusty concealer should come handy.

When you initially apply it, the formula feels very wet and dewy. But here’s where it gets interesting. Unlike other dewy cushion formulas that increase in shine as the day wears on, this one doesn’t get shinier. It actually dries down semi-matte over a period of time.

I have an oily t-zone and dry cheeks, and the foundation did not oxidise nor make my skin oilier. What’s more, my dry patches looked nicely hydrated and my pores were not emphasised.

The compact comes in 9 flattering, mostly neutral shades for fair to deep skin tones, and also features broad-spectrum SPF 35 protection, which is a plus to help boost your daytime moisturiser with SPF.

Overall, it’s a good cushion foundation that works to even out skin tone and add brightness, and gives a dewy, soft-focus glow that’s all the rage right now. Even in humid weather, it stays on for about 4 hours. It is handy and portable, and comes with a large mirror for on-the-go touch-ups to refresh your skin.

If you’re a fan of full-coverage formulas, then this product isn’t for you. But if you like glowing skin and minimal coverage, you’ll be thrilled by how fantastic this looks.
