Here’s What We LOVE About Coldplay’s New Video!
A lot has been said and written about Coldplay’s new video Hymn For The Weekend, especially agitated voices on the internet screaming cultural appropriation by the band as well as Beyoncé, who also features in the video. Sure the cliches abound, but I personally don’t think there’s anything offensive about the video or how it portrays India. However, that is not what my article is about.
Queen Bey being Queen Bey, I’m really digging her make-up in the video. While her costume by Indian designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla has also been on the receiving end of some flak, it’s her gorgeous make-up that I want to draw your attention to. Where Queen Bey is concerned, her hair and make-up has never not been stellar and she doesn’t disappoint in this video either.
If you can take your eyes of the ornate headgear, let’s take a moment to admire the perfection that is Queen Bey’s face. I think the gold-green smoked out eye shadow coupled with kohl rimmed eyes are flat-out fabulous. The eyes are soft and have just enough colour to complement the bold lip (more on that later). The gold-green eye shadow warms up her dusky complexion perfectly and should work brilliantly on Indian skin tones as well.
Expertly applied bronzer and some intense strobing give her a sun-kissed glow. She sports two lipsticks in different portions of the video. While the gold is a throwback to the 90s, it should stay there IMHO. However, I really love the strong plummy brown matte lipstick she’s wearing; it just strengthens the case for the 90s brown lipstick. I’ve rounded up some plum-brown lipsticks to channel your inner diva. After all, this is the month of loving yourself!
