This Illuminating Primer Is A Total Gamechanger For Zahra

By  |

Australian brand Becca — which has recently made its way to India exclusively with Sephora — boasts of a complete line of colour cosmetics founded by makeup artist Rebecca Morrice Williams. And while it has some great products in its arsenal, the one thing that has catapulted the brand to stratospheric levels is its range of highlighting products. From shimmering powders to lush liquid formulas, its incredible range of highlighters is nothing short of superb. (In fact, Snehal and Tatiana from Team Hauterfly did a really cool video reviewing some of the products here.)

Keeping that in mind, I was super excited to try Becca’s Backlight Priming Filter as soon as it landed on my desk a few weeks ago. The promise is that the primer blurs imperfections immediately and gives your skin a radiant finish that lasts all day. Now, who doesn’t want skin that glows all day, every damn day? I know I do!

However, being an oily-skinned girl, I was terrified of the prospect of looking like a Gulf oil spill had exploded all over my face. I mean, having oily skin and looking for a dewy glow are literally impossible. But being the intrepid beauty junkie that I am, I just had to give this product a go and see if it worked on combination/oily skin as well.

And so the first time I tried it, I just put it on over my daily moisturiser and proceeded to check my complexion in the mirror. The lightweight lotion has a nice golden shimmer that provides a healthy glow without making you look sparkly like a disco ball. Phew. Be warned, though: while the product has some amount of Vitamin E-enriched moisture, you shouldn’t really consider swapping out your everyday moisturiser for it. It does help your foundation apply smoother, though, so that’s a definite win as far as a good primer is concerned.

Now comes the good part: I wore the primer under my everyday foundation — L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24H Foundation, which is a full-coverage, mattifying liquid foundation that stays on like its life depends on it — and I could still see some of the luminescence peeking through. As much as I love mattifying products for an oil-free complexion, I hate how flat and dull my foundation looks on my face on most days. So it was definitely a welcome visual effect to see my skin displaying a beautifully diffused, soft-focus glow thanks to the primer. That “backlight” thing actually works, ladies!

While I did last the entire day without looking greasy, I have read reviews online where not all oily-skinned girls appreciate this “all over glow”. So if you fall into this category, you can definitely use this product as a subtle liquid highlighter to perk up the high points of your face. Trust me, it’s got a gorgeous “summer glow” effect that’s hard to beat!

If you have normal to dry skin, though, you’ll love this as an all-over highlighter under your foundation, and even more so on days when you don’t want to put on any makeup. Just mix it with your favourite moisturiser and blend it into your skin for the most radiant complexion of your dreams. It works on all kinds of skin tones, be it fair or deep, and doesn’t look overly warm or cool. I mean, how does it do that?

Housed in a luxe frosted glass bottle with a pump dispenser, this primer stays true to its promise of providing a lit-from-within glow that looks healthy, youthful, and natural. The impressive formula provides the right kind of visual effects you want from your makeup, so if you’re looking to add some brilliance to your everyday routine, this product is definitely it for you!
