Reviewed: Plum NaturStudio Kohl Pencil
Like every other kohl addict, I was enamoured by Maybelline Colossal Kajal at one point in my life. Then I experimented with Lakmé Eyeconic Kajal and L’Oréal Paris Kajal Magique — two other leading kohl favourites — and have been more than impressed by their performance. But if you are a true make-up junkie, you know that your quest to find THE best product never ends. Which brings me to the under-the-radar beauty brand Plum, and its new NaturStudio All-Day-Wear Kohl Kajal.
Described as “darkest black” on the packaging, I would actually describe the colour as a sooty black, which is perfectly fine with me. The gel-based eye pencil is soft and creamy, and glides on like dream which means no tugging around the thin and sensitive eye area. While I don’t have watery eyes, they aren’t exactly dry either; this combined with oily skin can be quite a challenge when wearing kohl, as I tend to wipe my face a lot. This is why I wear only water-proof and smudge-proof products. In the name of testing the efficacy of this kohl, I applied it before going to bed (yes, I do things like that!) and woke up with the kohl intact and no fading either. That’s one more brownie point for this product. The one downside for me is the price. Most other kajal pencils in this category are super affordable and come in under Rs 250, but Plum has priced its kohl at Rs 425.
The most important thing for me is the fact that as a brand, all of Plum’s products are preservative-, paraben-, mineral oil-, and paraffin-free. It takes its natural approach to beauty quite seriously, and that’s one more reason why I like the eye pencil. Interestingly, when I applied it, I felt a coolness along my waterline that reminded me of the Khojati Mumtaz Kajal that my mum would let me use during my school days. What I really LOVE about this kohl though, is that it’s not tested on animals. And that makes it a total win in my books.
